Play-testing Observations (Sunday 15th)

  • Game 1: 3 children (girls) 1 parent

  • skipped straight to setting up. (parent looked shitty)
  • playing cautiously, not sure about what to do (beginning)
  • forgetting to follow the lines
  • kids might not have understood without parents involvement
  • completely understood the concept of depositing fruit in the nest
  • feeling genuinely hurt when losing points
  • confused about having kakapo and cat tokens on the same space
  • 15 mins - no stored fruit yet, points lost. 20 to high?
  • keep reaching for the instructions
  • taking cats of each turn, before replacing them again
  • forgetting whos nest is whos, but understand they cannot share
  • strategy emerging - helping each other plan out moves to get the most points
  • having fun, laughing
  • "what happens when the cat stays in the same place"
  • see the value in safe spots - late game
  • may not have know you can deposit at any time

  • Game 2: 3 boys, 1 girl, 1 parent

  • 1 player nominated themselves to read the instructions all the way through
  • understood the deposit mechanic very easily
  • parent helping with explaining
  • understood the moving mechanic
  • understood the numbers on the nodes
  • lack of direction regarding being trapped causing anger
  • decided you just had to pass the nest to deposit instead of going inside
  • youngest member playing banker.
  • "dooooooooooom"
